I work for Bay Networks Internet & Telco Group in Asia Pac and have second-hand knowledge of this deal. Unlike yourself, I could not believe the discount at first. Specially when you consider the money per port that Ascend have to pay Rockwell (whereas Bay and 3Com own their own modem DSP technology).

p.s. I was thinking of buying ASND @ $23 but appear to have missed the bottom.
