Hawk, I had a great time that evening..... interestingly that restaurant burnt down on my birthday Feb 15th of 2010 and they rebuilt it .... but they put in a really large yuppie overblown bar as you enter and changed the entire experience of the restaurant. I went to Mai's (the restaurant in question) with my brother, we met there on a non descript Wed night at 8:00 PM which is late by Houston standards for dinner on a week night and the place had a half hour waiting list. We ended up going to Van Loc's another vietnamese 4 blocks north.

Mai's has better food hence the crowd..... Pete and I went to Carraba's on Voss and Woodway one of 2 that are still owned by the original familyy and the quality is high. Pete commented that you would not know there was a recession on by the welll heeled crowd at Carraba's.

The Houston economy is pretty dramatic especially in the way in which developers go in and tear down areas and rebuild them...... on an on going basis.

John
