<<Don't you think it comes down to your family upbringing and values first and foremost?

Well, sure, but how do we get that first family educated? Great, you did it on your own, but as you said you are white. A lot easier if you are white. I am white and all my life I got preferential treatement.
Some people figure out how to get an eduction on their own. Some don't.

I am not sure our life experiences are so different. All my parents had was a high school education and my brother only made it to the 8th grade. And I saw many get out of the ghetto on their own, but others needed some help. For whatever reason.

Among my educated friends almost all of their kids go on to college. Among my uneducated friends most do not go on to college. My kids went to college, but my bothers didn't.

Head start and Affirmative action works. We know it works. For every dollar put into head start society gets back $60 to $300 dollars. The more a society puts into education the more it wil get back in multiples. So it makes no sense to not provide free education.

Where exactly do you think I am too liberal? That says you think my ideas make no sense. Tell me which ones and maybe I can defend them.
