Re: Iraq. All you have to do is cut off the head of the snake if you want to kill it. Hussein should be the world's number one target not the Iraqi nation.

There is no point, just as there was no point in 1991, in destroying Iraq's conventional army just to replace it's leader with a moderate who then cannot control Iran militarily or even Iraq for that matter. Military balance must be maintained or the whole of the Middle East will explode.

Also the rest of the Arab world (Syria, Egypt) would not support any proposition that allowed the US to occupy an Arab nation because they are really deep-down allies of their fellow Arab nation Iraq against the Persians in Iran even if Iraq is run by a crackpot.

The American public wouldn't probably want it either. Imagine American occupying forces becoming involved in a protracted ground war with Iran and/or Syria/Egypt and Israel then getting involved...yikes!

War is just another form of diplomacy, albeit extreme. It is simply not in America's domestic or foreign political interests to take control of Iraq just so the world would be better off without Saddam Hussein.

To the Arabs America represents simply the next set of Crusaders who, like the Crusaders of a 1000 years ago, have no chance of winning the hearts of the Arab people. It's best for America to therefore put its interests first and foremost in whatever action it takes in the Middle East.

America and its allies should be forever proud of the job they did in the Gulf War and not let the continuing antics of Saddam Hussein be an indication of some sort of failure on their part.

I find the fear about the current Iraq situation rather strange considering that not too long ago the US sent a battle group to the South China Sea to, in effect, confront China (a nuclear power) over their military exercises near Taiwan which the Chinese consider to be an internal issue and nobody else's business. Just imagine if that one blew up.

Funny nobody seemed too worried about it then but it underpins the continuing Chinese suspiscion of the US's intentions towards China which of course sees itself surrounded by many traditional enemies...India to the west, Russia to the north, Vietnam to the south and Japan (with US support) to the east.

In the meantime...Cycomm is heading back to $3 country...commonsense is prevailing.
