Was just answering some essay questions on facebook for a student- and it got me thinking how fast technology is changing- at least for those of us who embrace technology. Some of my students were showing me their new apple phones- they ask questions, and the phone gets an answer for them. Very powerful stuff. We are reading Antigone- and one of the kids wanted to see a map of ancient Thebes- poof, one of my students gets the map. It's so cool. It's like all the brains in the world are in my classroom via the net- and many of the kids have access- makes me wish they all had computers. For classrooms that embrace this kind of instant knowledge- I'd say the sky is the limit. And I'm not teaching Antigone just to AP kids- I'm using it in my remedial class, and they love it. As I told them- it's like every Hollywood movie- the teen is right; the adults are wrong; and surprise surprise, dad doesn't like his son's wild girlfriend. Roughly 2500 years have passed since Antigone was written, and we're still playing the same tapes. Anyway, just random thoughts tonight about education.
