THE RUSH TO JUDGMENT

Politico, a left wing source supported and/or bankrolled by WAPO, releases what they hope is a bomb shell against Herman Cain, current front runner for the GOP nod in 2012.

MSM rushes to embellish and repeat over and over the thread bare aspects of the charge. At this point there has been no indication from the MSM that they first consulted with Cain regarding the veracity of the accusations. They merely used the tired old technique of, "If it bleeds, it leads."

I would not at all be surprised to see Krauthammer, Rove et. al. jump on this bandwagon. Tonight's Bret Baier show on FOX might be worth a look. You need not take more than the twenty minutes of your time; just watch the last portion of FOX political theater. Actually, it might be worth it just to see the reaction of Juan Williams.

It is encouraging to see many on this thread avoiding the "rush to judgment". There is plenty of time if there is truly any meat to the story, we will soon know.

It reminds me of the several false allegations against Palin. And then there is the Justice Thomas story which was played big by the liberals and their MSM ilk to a resounding failure.

I am hoping that a reasonable voice such as Breitbart might come forward.

The other part of this decade old gossip piece raises the question, "Who will benefit most from the story, whether or not it is true"?

I don't think it is Obama, at this point, since so many democratic and republican strategists tell us daily that Cain has no ground game, no money etc. and won't last.

If correct, then we (the GOP) are faced with looking in the mirror. Which of the current crop of hopefuls would reap from Cain's loss? Most likely, the ones he has overtaken. Oops!, he has overtaken them all. But which ones are the most likely?

Romney would be a good guess. So would Perry. They both have money and power. They just need higher numbers in the polls. Then there is Bachmann. She has lost her mojo since her Iowa straw poll blow out. She has been accusatory against Cain regarding his abortion issue and highly critical of his 999 plan.

I am not accusing her but if I were to look at the GOP group, she would be near the top of my list on cutting Cain's feet out from under him before the Iowa vote. IMO, Iowa is critical for her to continue the fight to the top.

Finally, there is always the possibility of someone inside the Herman Cain tent. Some McCain insiders did it to Palin.

Meanwhile, I will wait, observe and learn from the next few days. There is plenty of time to make that premature judgment.
