>> How do you know that?
I don't guess we have any way of knowing with certainty what happened. However, had there been a legitimate sexual harassment claim, one thing is absolutely certain: Herman Cain would have to HAD to have been disciplined by the organization for it and there would have been all manner of "sensitivity training", etc., that would have resulted, and someone, somewhere would be talking about it. A failure to discipline him would have exposed NRA to liability they could not, and would not, have taken a chance with.
Also, if it had happened, there would have been a substantial settlement, not a nuisance value settlement, and the indications are that no such settlement occurred.
Bottom line is that the facts don't add up. Maybe something new will come out, I don't know -- but based on what we've seen so far there was no legitimate sexual harassment claim.
It is important to remember that the vast majority of these claims are frivolous and just efforts to extort money. Now, it is always possible this one wasn't, but I think there would be some objective facts (not a mere allegation by some unnamed source) to indicate it.
My wife was once the HR person for a small hospital. During her tenure there, there were sexual harassment allegations multiple times. In every case it led to an extended series of meetings, fact finding missions, and discussions involving TONS of people. There is just no way this escapes under the radar if the person involved later becomes a presidential candidate (in the cases I'm referring to, they all made the local newpapers). There would have been many people involved who were NOT bound by any NDA. |
