Yes, no question there is an element of politicization of the downside. The GOP wants to pain the Dems as the root cause of all evil. There's more FUD to go around than ever.

But I'm not someone that can be swayed too much on that kind of non-sense. I take great pains to get most of my information from multiple sources. Incidentally, I don't watch nor read Fox News. That's a nazi propaganda machine so filled with BS, that it makes my stomach turn. I do read foreign press and blogs extensively. I find them to be less biased.

What you find is that the main stream media misses more often than not, the real story of what is going on. It's no surprise, though, because the media on the left and right is at the end of the day owned by 5 companies in the US. That kind of concentration of power in the mainstream media means that you have some serious suppression of real information getting out. It's one of the key root causes to the ongoing problems in this country. Transparency and citizen education as to the real problems and root causes has suffered as a result. It takes someone like me who really spends a lot of time digging to find out what's really going on. Very few people have the time or inclination to do that digging and if the mainstream isn't reporting the important stuff, we have a real problem. We start to elect leaders who don't do what we want them to do.

To a certain extent, that is what OWS is about. Rage against the leadership on both sides of the aisle.
