NEWS:Augment Names Juama As Primary Mexican Distributor; New Distributor to Purchase
WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 20, 1997--Augment Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: AUGS) today named Juama Group (Juama) as it's first distributor in Mexico. Juama, which has been providing products to the printing and publishing market in Mexico for 42 years, will also serve as Augment's marketing and customer support channel to Mexico. To promote the relationship, as well as familiarize the market with the Augment AFX 410, Juama has placed an order for an Augment AFX 410 system. The AFX 410 system will be utilized for marketing and demonstration purposes. "We believe that the performance advantage that the AFX 410 offers to a digital prepress workflow is so significant that the product will pay for itself in months and enable users in Mexico's rapidly expanding printing and publishing markets to achieve unmatched levels of throughput," stated Colin Murphy, Vice President Sales and Marketing, Augment. "We're truly excited to be working with Juama to provide our products to the printing and publishing market in Mexico." Juama has over 40 years of expertise in developing, marketing and servicing the graphic arts industry in Mexico. In 1955, Juama was founded to provide the graphic arts industry with graphic arts supplies. Since then, Juama has grown to include seven divisions, including High End Technology Systems for PrePress and Printing, Graphic Production Systems, and Teleradiology and PACS for Medical Digital Archiving and Communications Systems. "We believe the Latin American market, particularly Mexico, represents a significant opportunity for Augment, as shown by the strong showing by printing and publishing companies at this past September's Print 97 trade show in Chicago," noted Lorrin Gale, President and CEO of Augment. "Because of the increasing demand for mass storage due to data-intensive applications for prepress production, digital printing, electronic publishing, multimedia production and Internet communications specifically throughout Mexico, we saw the need to find a responsible, experienced partner to address the needs of potential customers in that country. Juama fits the bill, and we are delighted to be working with them." Augment AFX 410 Augment manufacturers and distributes what it believes to be the fastest available heterogeneous file server system. Independent tests run by Augment user, The Arthur Morgan Company, in Boston, MA, demonstrate that the AFX 410 delivers files to client workstations at rates up to 30 times faster than standard local area network (LAN) systems. In addition to unique file management software, RAID storage and fast processors, Augment's approach incorporates Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) technology, an industry standard developed to provide faster file transfer rates between client computers. FC-AL technology offers a bi-directional one- gigabit/second bandwidth that works independently of the user's LAN. The result is a faster, "augmented" channel for large files, similar to a freeway's fast or carpool lane where the main throughway benefits from reduced congestion. Augment Systems, Inc., headquartered in Westford, Massachusetts, designs, develops and markets high-end Fibre Channel file server systems for moving large image and data files rapidly and efficiently over computer networks. The Company's initial target markets are the electronic publishing industry, medical imaging and the Internet/Intranet markets. Augment is a trademark of Augment Systems, Inc.
