someone purporting to speak for the political right wrote about PBS: we don't want it castrated, we just want it to stand on it's own and not use my tax money for it. Is that really hard to understand. Even for you ? private enterprise broadcast journalism supported by profits is subject and beholden to, the customers with the most money. there is plenty of private enterprise broadcast journalism already funded in the world. it becomes dependent on the deep pockets for its very existence. its program content (for survival reasons) begins to cater to the interests of business and the wealthy. the premise behind "public funding" for PBS is to create an atmosphere for a broadcast journalism organization in which the support comes from the taxpayers. it becomes dependent on the taxpayers for its very existence. its program content (for survival reasons) begins to cater to the interests of the taxpayers and the poor. there is room and need for both private and publicly funded broadcast journalism organizations. Is that really hard to understand?
