Because the parents tech the kids in Finland!! Same with all educated parents. Educated prents make sure etheir kids get educated if they have to use chalk boards! Half of what my kids know came from my wives and me. But when the parents cannot or won't teach the kids then it is up to society. Kids born in middle class families self actualize with a 50/50 ratio i.e. 50% genes and 50% nurture. But kids born in ghettos it is 10/90 i.e. 10% genes and 90% nurture. So that is where society has to come in with programs like head start to supplant the lackof parents involvement. Best for society to get them educated one way or the other. The good thing about kids going to lots of public schools which have the good the bad and the ungly teachers is that they will still get a good education and most importantly having randon teachers which avois the death nail of eucation, "DOGMA"! << There is plenty of blame to go around and deservedly so. Teachers blame society/parents and society blames teachers. Just another of those issues that is ripe for a man of vision and leadership otherwise nothing will change. Why do Finnish schools do so good? They spend little money on education (comparatively), kids don't have homework, kids don't start school until they are seven and they are for the most part latch-key children.
