Social security is not a problem. Basically it is designed to pay for itself. Medicare and welfare transfers are entirely different. They are things that advanced societies have to do as much as they can reasonable afford to do.

For SS to work, it needs adjustments from time to time to account for demographic and other imbalances.

There is no need to lump SS and mix it's funding mechanisms with other social programs and issues. SS has a terrfic track record. It works. Stop messing with it.
