On the assumption in these arguments that our "schools are failing," I don't agree. My up close and personal experience with one NJ suburban public school is that they are doing quite well thank you. My guess is that the category--suburban public schools are also doing reasonably well. The problem lies in the long running failure of the political system to address inner city woes, education prime among them. And, for that matter, rural education.
