The seven deadly sins of politics. In general the major parties are often accused of exhibiting negative characteristics ... usually by their counterparts.

Republicans: Pride, Greed, Gluttony
Democrats: Sloth, Envy, Lust

Even though attempts are often made to project these onto the other side, they rarely have much impact except in the reaction they produce. Like democrats trying to label republicans as immoral or republicans trying to label democrats as selfish. Sure republicans are tempted by the desires of the flesh just like dems but in general they hold the standards of morality with greater concern. Sure democrats are more likely to be atheists prone to materialism but it is republicans who generally control the reigns of corporate power.

So the tipping point seems to be in the reaction. The side which seems more unnerved by the needling from their counter part gets handed the weight of Wrath.

If this is correct, the party seeming most unnerved by the other loses. Which is why, for example, Repubs have an opportunity to score points when the OWS demonstrations become ugly and why Dems score points when T party rally gets extreme. Its not that anybody really cares what the actors in those events do ... but when they behave badly it opens the door for the other side to get your goat.

In the course of human events, however ... maybe not.
