Hokie TE Andre Smith gets a shot with da Bears...

Bears TE Adams put on season-ending IR list

4:04 PM CST, November 9, 2011

Chicago Bears rookie tight end Kyle Adams, who never had experienced a hamstring pull before suffering one Monday night on a field-goal attempt at Philadelphia, will miss the rest of the season.

The club made the decision that the injury was significant enough to warrant a roster move for Adams, who has played in all eight games, primarily on special teams. He was placed on season-ending injured reserve and tight end Andre Smith was promoted from the practice squad to take his place.

Smith, an undrafted free agent from Virginia Tech, has been with the Bears since the start of training camp.

Special teams coordinator Dave Toub had praised Adams’ work on special teams just last week, and he had fit in quickly as a smart and versatile player. Smith has experience on special teams too. He blocked two punts during his career at Virginia Tech and made 25 starts there, catching 39 passes for 438 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Bears filled out the practice squad by signing Draylon Ross, an undrafted free agent tight end from North Texas. He had a brief stay with the team during training camp.
