What could be more seductive to the simple human psyche than a stage filled with such grandiose imagery of evil demonic terrors & splenderous heavenly thrones with the angels and saints with self-fulfiling prophecies , wild miracle stories all reinforced with the real spectacles in their time of the most cruel tortures & inhuman public executions commanded by infallible authority ? These public tortures were spectacles that all attended in most cases with the entire villages or towns turned out to witness the writhing screaming terror filled victims die . This was the thrall of this living ongoing mass deception & dellusion that was the equivillent of the human sacrifice of the Aztec savage .
To say that the common people were held simultaneously in the grip of terror & thrall in all this make believe would be an understatement and this the leaders of the Church knew as well as the Romans who fed the Christians to the lions in the Colliseum . They're all one & the same superstition one was just a new updated version with a few improvements that would add one more element of "Wow" factor , the greatest of them all --->rising from the dead & eternal life . |
