It is all a combination of ignorance and fear. The unknown can take an infinite variety of forms but these are passed on through culture and experience as an evolution of sorts as the vagaries of change and social favor interplay and dance in the minds of the susceptible.

If I had not decided to choose reason as a tool for living I would undoubtedly hold the superstitions common to my family/school/local community. Of course, now with a shrinking world and a media which is omnipresent, the spectrum of both reason and delusion is considerably broadened for many cultures. Not perhaps for the Homo floresiensis if any remain but for most civilized nations! LOL!

Yet people still CHOOSE to believe in utter nonsense when any the library on the corner could immediately disabuse their credulity! I will never understand such a refusal to think. Why DO people refuse to think? It does not make any sense?
