LyondellBasell Boosts Quarterly Dividend 25%, Declares $4.50 Special Dividend

LyondellBasell Industries NV (LYB) raised its quarterly dividend 25% and declared
a special dividend of $4.50, joining a growing list of companies seeking to
deliver a greater return to investors.

The plastics and chemical company increased its quarterly dividend to 25 cents
from 20 cents. The increased payout will cost the company about $115.5 million
more a year, while the special dividend will return about $2.6 billion to
shareholders.

Earlier this month, Standard & Poor's Ratings Services upgraded LyondellBasell's
credit rating two notches to double-B-plus, leaving it one step short of
investment-grade territory, after a unit successfully tendered a large amount of
debt.

The company--formed after the 2007 merger of Houston-based Lyondell and
Europe-based Basell--emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection about a year
ago. LyondellBasell reported last month its third-quarter profit rose a
better-than-expected 92% as the U.S. olefins and refining and oxyfuels segments
contributed to a 29% revenue boost.

Shares were trading 3.2% higher at $37.25 premarket. The stock has risen 4.9% so
far this year through Friday's close.
