Ali, you are missing the point entirely. The US can't technically default, because we can print money forever. However, we can default in a more meaningful way. I am not missing anything...here's what you said, and to which I responded... I'm 51. Old enough to have paid my dues, but too young to have much hope that I'll participate in the benefits of club membership before the club is disbanded. Your new post tells a very different and more detailed story....to what degree it's an accurate prediction of what will happen is not clear...frankly it sounds a might extreme and global, particularly as it pertains to SS, which has a far smaller unfunded liability than Medicare... By the way you might have noticed that the political discussion is beginning to go the way of cuts AND revenue (points 1 and 2 in your conclusions)...even rigid republicans are beginning to submit to the inevitable...growth is the other point you did not mention directly.
