Comments from a professional MLP broker who has been paying the tax on UBTIs held in an IRA for years, and considers the minimal cost well worthwhile, in the post below. I personally hold reasonably large amounts of MLPs in an IRA and they all have negative UBTI (except MMP) and I've never had a problem. I love that I can trade them tax-free should I want to.
