david, Saw your Burke post and a parallel came about how it would apply to Christians too!!
David...PRODIGAL SON OF THE 90'S..... Luke 15: 15 And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16 And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17 And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18 I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19 And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. 20 And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
While meditating on the parable of the Prodigal son the Holy Spirit gave me this parallel.
Christians flirted with materialism in the 80's. Just like the story of the Prodigal son. It's now the 90's and they are returning home.
"Some Pastors and Christians asked for their inheritance and wanted it now. They got it (Cadilacs and $250,000 houses). Years later they woke up one morning and I gave them a 15 minute taste of their joy when they were first saved. The love and the closeness with Jesus and my Word. After the 15 minute taste I removed the feeling and they looked at their wealth and realized the "pigpen" they were really living in. Yes, all their wealth had become stale. When compared with just the 15 minute re-taste of the true love they once had with Me their big houses and nice cars tasted like slope. They said "even the lowliest servant in the Father's house eats better than this....I will return home. They did and were welcomed back with a feast."
The Holy Spirit also had a word for the Christian who never strayed into materialism " Remember the resentfulness of the elder son in the Prodigal son parable. Don't be jealous and complaining when I take them back like nothing had happened. Don't be prideful that you didn't make that mistake...... Rejoice with ME that they are back. "
It is not that our Father didn't want us prosperous, but our hearts must be prepared for prosperity. God can only bless a scriptural lifestyle. Even tithing has it's limitations. God can only bless us up to what we can stand without falling away. I don't know why the father of the Prodigal son gave him the inheritance early anymore than I know how or why Christians of the 1980's got their cars and houses. I do know there is nothing wrong with nice cars and expensive houses since I have them. ..... But then maybe that is the answer. I have them they don't have me. |
