Westell never had intelectual property and research and development capacity for chipset development and the DSP programming software. It turned out that the lack of this capacity hurt them in the marketplace. The loss of most of the BC business to Alcatel might have been avoided if Westell would have had that basic capacity in DMT technology. Most of the value of Amati lies in its basic IP. TI thinks its worth $400 million. Westell would have got it if it merged with Amati. I don't know if Westells relationship with TI is a sufficient replacement.
