Kindle Fire 1st Impressions It was out for delivery at 6:00 am this morning and UPS delivered it at 10:30. I said to the driver, "you must be delivering quite few of these today." He said, "you're the 1st, what is it?" It feels heavy for its size. It has a beautiful screen. It came with a tiny page of one image and maybe 100 words of instructions to get started. Android is nor discernible to me - just a combination of cover-flow like navigation and bookcase listings with a row of options at the top and bottom of the screen. Only hardware button is on the bottom edge next to the micro usb connector. It feels like a good value at $199 and I am happy with the decision to buy it for my father in law. It came already registered to my Amazon account but it was a very simple matter to de-register it. Chuck happened to remember that he had bought a book or two from Amazon so I plugged his AOL email in and used his usual password and voila it registered itself to him and gave him a free month of Amazon Prime. Email was just as easy to add. Not terribly impressed with the client but it is so much better than Chuck having to drag himself to the desktop to start Firefox, log on to AOL and then check his mail. So it is ready to hand off. It is anything but an iPad killer, but it seems perfect for Chuck. Did Apple lose an iPad sale? No, Amazon got an up-sale from what we would have done which is buy a standard Kindle. Now lets see how it works for him.
