You may be right that it could have gradually dwindled off had the authorities done nothing. But just when it looked like they might be losing interest the police cracked down with violence and that served to galvanize the resolve of the protestors and garner support for them from the public.

The unfortunate thing for you and people like you who don't support them is that they have been successful. Tens of thousands of people have moved their money out of banks and in to credit unions. Banks have changed policies because of the protests. People and the media are now talking about the issues. It is an example of American ideals being exercised. The right to free speech and peaceable assembly are not dead in this country and that is a good thing.
