ALL Christians have a core set of beliefs that include such things as the unique Divinity of Jesus Christ and the exclusive claims that go along with that. For instance:

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6)

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
(Acts 4:12)

So when Desmond Tutu denies these things either explicitly or implicitly, he places himself outside the circle of those who hold to the biblical teachings about the person and work of Jesus Christ.
