I like to roast and toast. Few people agree with me, but I contend the cost of a catalytic tower and heat refeed system is less than an autoclave and faster throughput. It is also exothermic, so contributes to energy, rather than being a drain. The problem is design, and royalty payments as the people who held the royalty on that wanted a few bucks for each tonne of SO2. I think their design is worthwhile and they have quoted to me that they can get rid of 99.97% of the sulfur di. The As in realgar is a different problem and is probably better treated in an autoclave where the As can be made into a ferrous compound and thus made harmless. Realgar's carcinogenicity and poisonous nature is a bit of a caution. It one does not need to roast or calcine the ore, perhaps one shouldn't.
