Reps. Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) introduced new legislation, called the RELIEF Act (H.R. 3210), which seeks to amend the Lacey Act in order to make the law's focus narrower so those who unintentionally violate the law are not penalized the same as those who knowingly do.

Something else that needs to be done is to pass a law making it illegal for the U.S. government to take actions based on it's interpretation of other countries' laws. Other countries have the right to interpret and adjudicate their own laws and if there are violations, it is their right to pursue the law-breakers. The fact that the U.S. government has appointed itself to interpret other countries laws, and in the case of Gibson wrongfully so, is a waste of taxpayer money and brings the ability to manufacture in this country to a new level of difficulty. One would think that the U.S. government can only prosecute it's own laws.
