WSJ Poll (today):

Do you support Newt Gingrich's stance on granting legal status to some longtime illegal immigrants?

Pro = 65.8% --- Con = 34.24%

Position Summary: Newt Gingrich's political gamble to support legal status for some illegal immigrants is differentiating him from other candidates for the Republican presidential nomination. Mr. Gingrich backs a plan to create boards to review illegal immigrants who have been in the U.S. for years and, if they pass muster, to allow them to remain legally. "If you've been here 25 years and you got three kids and two grandkids, you've been paying taxes and obeying the law, you belong to a local church—I don't think we're going to separate you from your family, uproot you forcefully and kick you out," Mr. Gingrich said. What do you think? Is that the equivalent of amnesty and might it draw new influxes of illegal immigrants? Or is there something to what Mr. Gingrich believes - that such residents benefit the U.S?
