I had 100% of my wife's 401K in conservative cash account from 1996 to 2008/2009. The compound interest put it to the #2 performer, only behind those bond funds, in a group of 20 funds. Her funds have been rotated to IRA and invested 100% in PM sector since. She is happy despite the current pull back.

These bond funds are near the end of their run, but there aren't many "safe places" to park money and still can keep up the inflation plus some gains.
