John, all of your suggestions are good ones. However, a less encompassing approach may be the preferred tactical step to achieve your strategic objective. It is unrealistic to expect success swallowing when you bite off more than you can chew.

The US is facing far more than the immigration problem along our Southern border. The threat of Islamic nuts is a concern; the faltering dollar is a concern; unemployment is a concern; Metastasizing socialism is another concern; Moral decay is another concern; Political corruption is another concern; etc., etc..

The point is, we can not solve all these problems at once; and IMHO we must rationally triage the situation and then treat the nation realistically -- in a manner that has a reasonable probability of success. If all good conservatives are unwilling to bend period, then they will "throw the soap out with the bathwater... not to mention the baby." One more cliche -- "a house divided can not stand."

Again, I do not disagree with any of your points; I do however disagree with the all or none solution model. When I was a student we had a military strategy text that set forth two opposing views of diplomacy. One was the Minamax approach (minimize loss and maximize gain) and the other was the Idealistic model -- a line in the sand and "dam the torpedoes, full speed ahead".

I think our disagreement may boil down to that; you are the Idealist, while I, for the moment anyway, find the Minamax approach better under existing circumstance.
