”Why is it unrealistic to expect to elect the most conservative candidates possible to the White House and Congress?

It is not impossible to elect a conservative as POTUS. But, if that dream is to become a reality, I do not think that dragging divisive issues to the forefront is the wisest strategy to achieve that end.

Sometimes, when you’re up to your ass in alligators you lose sight of the objective – and the prime objective in this case is to rid our nation of Obama and his communist/progressive ilk -- not to mention Soros.

Amnesty, like abortion and gay marriage, is a divisive issue that cannot be resolved to every ones satisfaction. If you approach any of these topics from an extreme and uncompromising posture you will lose the support of the opposite extreme plus many sympathetic moderates. This is not a good thing.

”Endorsing the ideas of Gingrich and Perry, who are moderates at best, sort of says, "I'm willing to accept illegal aliens in America.”

Yes that is one implication.

Another implication suggests open-minded flexibility; at least enough to consider alternative approaches to resolve tough issues. I think Gingrich’s 25-year modification to his earlier, more encompassing amnesty stance, as sighted by Bachman, demonstrates such ability. This stance seems to assuage those conservatives dominated by compassion while recognizing and not rejecting the validity of the “NO-amnesty” argument.

I think we need to reach for and demand more.

All in good time. Strengthening one’s political position should precede any aggressive action.

”If we are so weak that we cannot recognize our past mistakes and defend the sovereignty of our nation, we deserve the fate that awaits us.”

I agree 100% and we must learn from those mistakes.

We have been dealt a hand and must play that hand accepting current reality. How we play the hand will determine the future course of our nation.

We cannot relive history and rectify errors of the past; we cannot create an alternate reality -- at least in this reality.

Lamentation over the past is non-productive behavior. We must move forward recognizing the present and our opportunity to shape our future.

Actually this is a stimulating debate topic not un-like the classic death-penalty issue.
