Regina fire crews rescued a man and two dogs from the roof of a burning house Tuesday morning.

The first calls came in around 8:45 a.m. CST, and by just after 9, the two-storey brick house at 1817 Quebec St. east of the downtown was fully engulfed in flames, according to CBC reporter Dani Mario.

While flames and thick black smoke poured out, firefighters were smashing out windows and pouring water on the blaze.

Minutes earlier, a man had been stranded on the roof. With him were two dogs — a small poodle and what appeared to be a German shepherd cross.

Fire crews put a ladder up beside the man and helped bring him and the dogs safely to the ground.

The man was checked out by paramedics but didn't need further medical attention, police said.

By 10 a.m. firefighters had the blaze under control and were putting out hot spots.

Officials had no information about a possible cause of the fire.
