Earl,

I agree with you up to a point. If Ancor wants to sell in the LAN, the time is now. They have a number (Amoco, Boeing, Mt. Subaru) deals that are all on the LAN side. They need to be hitting the following points hard:

1. Superiority to ATM, and the specific ATM switches that were replaced. I don't know if everyone had a chance to scrutinize the Sun link on GE I posted last week, but that author said he "laughed" when he considers the idea that GE could outperform ATM in the LAN. This ATM hype is not insurmountable.

2. Plug and play aspects - FC is very easy to install, assuming the right cable is in place.

3. ATM does not support SCSI protocol, and can't be used in the SAN.

There are certainly reasons to be optimistic, but there is a window of opportunity rather than a sea of change.
