Steve---I think that thou has been bitten by the modern American prosperity doctrine.
Jesus said that he did not even own a pillow to put his head on. There was much wealth given to the Apostles to intiate the spreading of the Gospel. But within a few years almost all disciples and Apostles were short of funds.
Paul's acount about the sufferings in Jerusalem illustrates the point. Paul was so poor at times he had to stop preaching to build tents.
The modern prosperity doctrine is an American phenomenon infrequently found in earlier Christianity.
American mythology has superimposed an artificial value system and set of doctrines on our Christian Faith.
The early Pilgrim myth that the more money you had the more you were blessed by God is simply unbiblical and unchristian.
Ask yourself how th early Apostles and Jesus would view this doctrine.
A worship of wordly knowledge and wealth are two, among many, of the most evil myths perpetuated by the Babylon-America.

Is it possbile to be rich and a good Christian? Yes, but it is not the norm.
It is hard to have a lot of money and not love it just a little bit. Most m an, Chrisitan and nonchristians alike, go into tears when they take a hard lost in the market. Tis is a fact.

I consider you guys a breath of fresh air in a stifling evironment.
