In my recent article analyzing SeaDrill’s ( SDRL) third quarter results, I stated that the company’s steep decline in net income quarter over quarter was not caused by any weakness in the company’s operations. Rather, the decline was due to mark-to-market unrealized losses on derivative instruments. A brief discussion of these derivative losses ensued in the comments to this article. This tells me that a more in-depth analysis of these derivative losses is much needed to further understanding.
