As to the lawsuit situation, one suit was filed almost immediately after the announcement and included a much longer time period (96-97).
Probably just a coincidence.

This whole situation with the re-statement now takes on an ominous tone. If the problem really started up during 4th quarter 1996, then the accounting firms are drawn into the mess. That should be interesting. Also, the reason for George leaving during 1st quarter now make more sense. Maybe everyone was waiting to see if things could get a little better. I agree that Walt forced everyone's hand.

I certainly can't prove anyone knew the story.

But.... some did.
