Apple sold 17.1 million iPhones during that quarter. You see, unlike at one major Android manufacturer, Apple actually reports the number of phones it sells.

You could look it up in the earnings conference call transcript

And you could be honest by recognizing the pent up demand for the iPhone 4S, which will drive sales of iPhones to over 30 million in the current quarter.
