Yes, Fragments seems like a good solution in theory, but my understanding is that only Honeycomb and ICS are compatible with fragments, correct? If that's the case, most of those 100K apps which you say support tablet screens are doing so without fragments, correct? These are upscaled phone apps. Agreed, the way iPhone apps zoom (not upscale) is terrible on the iPad. But upscaling a phone app, while better, is still a poor substitute for a proper tablet optimized app. I'm sure you know the difference. Compare the official Twitter app on honeycomb vs. Plume on honeycomb. Twitter will expand the text to take up the width of the tablet, but it doesn't have the cool sliding panes that it has on the iPad.
