As a family, we share the same principles and values: all human beings possess the truth and courage within themselves to creatively resolve all their problems. My brother is an anesthesiologist. He himself is sort of a human miracle. My brother suffered brain damage when he was 6 years old when he got into a car accident as he was being driven to summer day camp. The Doctors said he suffered 15% brain damage and his IQ was borderline normal and my parents should not expect higher than 65s in school. My brother had problems remembering what he had learned due to the brain damage. The Doctors (Brain specialists) suggested he be placed in a special school. My mother had her own ideas: she got him an 81 year old tutor who worked with him 3 days a week. This tutor got my brother to utilize the undamaged portions of his brain to take over for the damaged part and recall what he had learned. My brother worked with this woman for 6 years and he began to excel in school. I use to crawl into bed with my brother and whisper in his ear every evening, "you can do anything, you can learn anything, you are smart." I was his older brother, his role model, the one he looked up to. Whatever I said, he believed. He began to believe in himself. The tears I wiped away from his cheeks and put on my face became his strength. He is my brother, so I put my life on the line for him and did whatever is necessary for him. That is my duty as a brother. I told my brother he was smarter than me and should do better in school than I did. He believed me and did better than me. His personality is very different from me (and my younger brother). I'm intense, outgoing, brash and confrontational. He is very soft, gentle, easy going and fills up with tears easily. He loves the human more than I do because he never says a bad word about any person. He loves helping others. He acknowledges evil, but only speaks of the good in people. In a way, he is an human Angel. My brother believes healthcare is a human right. His wife often says, "Canada got it right in theory, they just implemented it poorly." |
