There's a thread on this at another site, including comments directly from IB reps and (apparently) names of a couple of firms that maybe don't do this.

Personally, I'm in the "cautious" camp, but not the "freaked out" camp. At the end of the day, no matter what documents say, our money is in someone else's hands. I think the old adage about not having more at risk than you're willing to lose is still the most fundamentally sound advice to heed.

All just IMO, etc.
