Those questions are crafted from libertarian talking points. The real questions we face are not quite so simplistic. You present a false choice.

For example with financial regulation, I could live with minimal regulation if and only if the people who make bad bets and lose are allowed to fail. But now we have a situation where they are bailed out instead of being allowed to fail.

So we have precisely the worst of both worlds.

Now the financial corporate entities are restructuring and doing everything possible so that when they fail this time, and they will, the loss will again be passed on to the suckers, the taxpayers

I disagree that it is a false choice. I think my question gets right to the heart of the matter. But we are in absolute agreement about the need to let companies fail that deserve to fail. And in fact, we need to send some of the corporate heads to jail too.

We gave politicians too much power. The regulations that they put in place benefit the incumbent corporations that are paying the politicians off. Those regulations obviously didn't stop any malfeasance and instead, ended up being part of the reward system that kept the undeserving companies alive. Our politicians set up the financial collapse and then they rewarded the bad actors. Clearly our politicians were given more power than they could use ethically.

Instead, our politicians are getting rich on what amounts to modest salaries. And it ain't because they are financial geniuses.
