Their CareBot will help the many loving families that are struggling to take care of their aging loved ones at a huge economic and personal cost.

The CareBot is not intended to replace the human connection for elderly people, it is intended to enhance it. Each CareBot will be individually programmed by the family and professionals according to the specific needs of the person it is designed to assist.

Routine concerns about medications and a need to check in an elderly parent frequently can be the motivating factor behind the decision to move a senior out of a home they have lived in for decades. The CareBot will give family members peace of mind, knowing that their aging parent is secure in their own home and their safety is constantly monitored.

If the senior is living with family members the CareBot relieves the caregiver of mundane concerns and lets them focus more on the personal needs of the entire family. The caregiver will have the freedom to take a walk around the block, go to the store or pick up the kids at school. Just getting out of the house can relieve the stress of caregiving and any available family member can help to monitor an elderly relative via broadband connection to the CareBot. Family members who live far away can just "drop in" for a virtual visit too.

The CareBot can be equipped with vital sign monitors that keep watch 24/7 and immediately notify the elder's personal physician, family, and emergency services if vital signs fall outside of safe parameters.

It can also be programmed with simple games to keep a loved one with dementia amused or more challenging games to keep intellectually capable but physically infirm family members mentally alert and engaged. Stronger connections with family help to keep the care receiver emotionally engaged. There are many more ways that the CareBot will help elderly persons live a safer, more comfortable life in their own home or living with family.

Here's an example of a program for victims of dementia that can easily be programmed into the CareBot:

The CareBot has been Alpha tested and it was found that it was readily accepted by both the care giving family and the loved one being cared for. A Beta test is planned for 2012.

Videos of the Alpha test and a discussion of the CareBot's design and capabilities can be found here:
