The resources would be stripped very quickly. And that doesn't even take into account how many people would be driven to violence simply for the sake of survival.

Have you read "One Second After," by Carl Forstchen? It's about events following an EMP attack. He presents a very believable scenario of the chaos that would follow a breakdown of society following a disruption of the food distribution system.

You don't have snow down there, but up here, I am always amazed at how fast the grocery stores get picked over whenever we have a major snowstorm and deliveries do not arrive on time. You can see how quickly people could start going hungry.
