I think Gingrich would be as bad if not worse than Obama in practice because with a Republican House and possibly a Senate we are in a position to veto Obama's excesses.

If Gingrich is president, a Republican Congress is more likely to support some of his hare-brained proposals because he is a Republican. Take for example, the issue of illegals - if Gingrich advanced some broad measure to legalize the them, he would have the support of many Democrats and also some Republicans - mainly the RINOs - who would have cover because they would say they are supporting a Republican president.

Underlying what I am saying is my belief that Gingrich is no conservative and his record to date would affirm this. He has skewed to the right because that is the the best course of action for him to win the nomination - it is not because he is a conservative. I don't think that he has any deep rooted political philosophy. Therein lies the danger.

Is it not remarkable that hardly any of those who came to Congress because of his leadership in 1994 has come out in clear support of him? OTOH, there are those who are openly critical of him, his erratic leadership style and his lack of core principles.
