Your stories are interesting. You know I think poker players are born with a special outlook on life. A close friend asked me the other day what I would do if money matters never had to be considered and he was quite surprised at my answer as most normal people are! I would spend a lot of my time challenging the table and the poker gods! As I once mentioned to you, there is nothing so much in the "now" as being completely engaged in the cards and the people at your table. And then again there is a quote I remember from a book I read long ago. I forget the name of the book but I sort of remember the quote which I will try to set down:

"Each deal imposes on every player the ultimate in loneliness"--and there was a picture of a man alone in the middle of a lake in a canoe. I am not sure what meaning I take from that--perhaps several. It just feels right!

I guess it is because you are entirely responsible for being 100% honest with the cards and 100% honest with yourself. Nobody can fake reality at the card table. If you cannot deal in facts, you DIE!

And sometimes illusions are comforting--but NOT in poker!!
