I think the reason I would never vote republican is that they are squarely against the average Joe.

I think this statement shows a fair bit of ignorance about republicans and certainly is a gross generalization.

Take for example their opposition to the consumer financial protection bureau. What they are really standing up for is banks screwing over the little guy in a variety of different ways. The government does have a duty to protect the innocent citizen from predators.

Being opposed to the CFPB is not the same as being for banks screwing over the little guy. This is a false statement and a strawman.

Further, the government has specific responsibilities. One of them is NOT protecting people from making stupid decisions.

Why isn't anybody bitching about the people taking out loans that no responsible person would ever sign? In all of this finger pointing about the evil banks and evil government, why is nobody saying "hey, nobody put a gun to the consumers' heads making them sign the toxic loans that were offered by the predatory banks?"

It seems to me that the Average Joe was too busy being just as greedy as the bankers and politicians to look out for his own best interests.

Have you ever heard the saying "You can't cheat an honest man?" There was a movie by that name and at least one book. There is some wisdom in the saying.

And finally, the reason that I won't vote democrat is that they say that they are for the average joe when their actions are the exact opposite. Sure they'll create some bureau that doesn't accomplish anything, but at the same time they are facilitating the fleecing of the average joe.

The biggest difference that I see between democrats and republicans is that democrats trust their democrat politicians. Republicans certainly don't trust democrats, but we don't trust republicans either. We recognize that they are flawed human beings so we damn well better limit their power over us by keeping government small.

One thing that you might want to think about is that all of the power that we give the government when democrats are in control is then transferred to the republicans when they are in control. Do you want the republicans to have the powers that have been given to the democrats in the past three years?
