Chelsea Clinton makes NBC News debut

She had a tough act to follow – veteran journalist Ted Koppel’s report on Iraq – but Chelsea Clinton made her debut as a special correspondent for NBC News on Monday night without any fumbles.
The former first daughter appeared poised and well-prepared, though a bit nervous, delivering her report on a woman at the helm of non-profit in Pine Bluff, Ark., during “Rock Center With Brian Williams.”
After the segment – which included sit-down interviews with the organization’s founder and a few students – Clinton, 31, chatted with Williams about the story (part of the network’s “Making a Difference” series) and, more broadly, about how she ended up working at NBC.
“For most of my life, I did deliberately lead a private life and inadvertently led a public life,” said Clinton, 31, who has long kept her guard up with the media.
But she said it was pushing from her late grandmother, Dorothy Rodham, that convinced her to finally embrace the spotlight: “She recently had been cajoling me and challenging me to do more with my life, to lead a more of purposely public life, that being Chelsea Clinton had happened to me and that I had a responsibility to do something with that asset and opportunity.” |
