My analogies were flawed past someone purposefully paying a higher price for no reason. Given some time, having been in the manufacturing business, I'm sure I can come up with a better analogy. I would always strive to make quality component..but there were always times when the customer wanted "cheap". Not sure that applies either. In the case of computers, good power at a cheap price opens new markets but not markets Intel really wants. On the udder hand..20 million chips sold next year by Centuar, AMD and Cyrix will likely take some off the top of Intel...at least that's what the Analysts are getting squirrelly about. That and a slowdown due to Asia. I really got a laugh out of Andy Grove cheering the Asian countries to continue to buy more Intel chips and not go backwards. Of course he didn't specically say Intel.
Sounded a lot like begging to me.
