Don't get me wrong. I love Ivey. He has earned his reputation. He folds hands that Hellmuth used to know how to fold after an aggressive semi bluff gone bad. But a few months back I saw him on TV against Fergusson who had AK. The flop comes and Ivey gets a 3 to his pair of threes! Chris pairs up against those bloody trips with aces or kings (I don't remember which). Well, I think Chris knew from the start (after Ivey raised the flop) that the flop had killed him but you just have to honor such hands so nobody can ever strong-arm you off them. So he just called through (and of course Ivey made him pay in full) for his trip threes.

I know Chris knew the poker gods had screwed him. I saw it as soon as the flop went down and Ivey bet.

Against a weak player Chris might have been able to fold those aces. But you cannot fold them against an Ivey whom you must play again. Hard to put into words what I felt there. If anybody understands it, you will. What if Ivey was just making an incredible move! But Chris and I and all good players knew his aces (or Kings) were sucking a weak breeze. He just called with his high pair and called off his chips when the river was blank. Ivey,of course knew that Chris had either high pair or ace king (Chris would not have had a 3 in his hand unless it were a wired pair!) so both Ivey and Chris knew the bear had already shit in the buckwheat.

When Ivey raised on his trip threes on the flop Chris just called and sacrificed a lamb for the future...

But do you remember when Chris lucked out (I mean beat the odds!) against Cloutier in the final hand of the WSOP!! Chris made a proper call but Cloutier should have won! I was pulling for Cloutier because I (almost) always pull for probability "justice"!! :-)
