The Democratic party is the body that will fight the encrouching fascism, plutocracy and injustice. That is the army we need to join, hand in hand.
I used to believe that too. But here's what I've found out about what Democrats are supporters of by being on this thread and watching Obama:
* Democrats support bailouts for the rich and the banksters who get to keep their million dollar paychecks paid by taxpayer money, but it's always free markets for the other 99%, who can't get relief on their mortgages and must take on austerity or suffer the consequences
* Democrats believe in prosecuting criminals only if they are part of the 99%, but if you are part of the 1% and steal enough money, then you are exempt
* Democrats believe in Civil Liberties as an academic exercise, but when confronted with the greatest destruction of Civil Liberty in our lifetimes, they side with the fanatical rightwing to give the President the authority to detain and assassinate Americans without due process
* Democrats believe in raising taxes on the rich, but that's all talk because they never stick to their guns long enough to make it happen. Instead, they go along with the GOP who never met a tax cut they didn't like, to cut Payroll taxes, which is one way to knock the remaining legs out of Social Security, the one program that does the most good for masses of American in the bottom 99%
I could go on, but this is depressing. Finding out that the one sane party left is also insane is not a pleasant experience. |
